Meet Kari Lundstad-Vogt Coppersmith

Years at NEA: 12 years
Last year, NEA members contributed nearly $3.5 million to the union’s political action committee (PAC), which works to elect candidates up and down the ballot who will invest in educators.
And that’s about 3.5 million reasons to thank Kari Coppersmith for her work as the one and only NEA staffer dedicated to PAC fundraising.
Whether you’re talking about the incentives provided to PAC donors or the trainings provided to PAC captains, “if it’s PAC related, I can guarantee it’s been done by me because there is literally no other staff,” says Kari.
In her decade-plus at NEA, Kari has been working hard to shift the culture around PAC donations so that someday every NEA member will give—and give continuously.
Her dedication is unquestionable.
“I really, really care about public education,” she says. “The fall in enrollment and the mistreatment of educators is extremely detrimental to our country, our society, and the future. I feel this is an important place for me to be working. We’re protecting public education.”
