Meet Bhagya Rachamallu

Maintaining & improving essential systems for NEA & state affiliates to manage the data of 3 million members

Title: Senior Technology Analyst
Years at NEA: 7 years

Monitoring the Cognos portal and administering MRA reports, configuring and deploying and upgrading systems in a distributed Windows environment, and working with Oracle and SQL server DBAs…

This is just a little bit of what Senior Technology Analyst Bhagya Rachamallu does—and if you don’t understand half of those words, that’s okay. Bhagya does!

In essence, Bhagya does two jobs for NEA.

On the one hand, she maintains Cognos, the software that holds NEA’s membership records. She troubleshoots; she upgrades; and she works with multiple teams to improve the performance of the systems.

On the other, she works directly with state affiliates and other partners to manage those records and make them accessible.

NEA has 3 million members—that’s at least 3 million membership records, each with complex detail about each member’s roles

Let’s say you’re a state executive director who wants to know how many Aspiring Educators joined the union this spring, and from which campuses, and how many are women versus men, and whether the total number is more or less than last year. You need Bhagya.

“We have 50 states running applications on the same database and it is continuous support,” she says. “The most rewarding part is that the state affiliates appreciate our work very well! And, to make them happy makes us happy!”

Fun Facts about Bhagya

Prior to coming to NEA, Bhagya worked for a NASA contractor as an aerospace engineer.

Bhagya has two sons—a 6th grader and 10th grader, both attending public schools in Loudoun County. Like their mother, both are interested in pursuing technological fields.
