NEASO HAS authorized A Strike

NEASO is not on strike.

WHAT DOES A STRIKE AUTHORIZATION MEAN?

Our NEA Staff Union members fight every day to raise the standard of working conditions for educators, support staff, and faculty across the country. As the nation’s largest union, NEA has the opportunity and responsibility to set an example by being the type of employer we want for every worker.

Our members overwhelmingly gave our board of directors authority to call for a strike, should it become necessary. The vote demonstrates our willingness to do what it takes to secure a fair contract—one that respects our say, our day, and our pay.

And yet, NEA management continues to use the same anti-worker playbook against us that we work so hard to dismantle for NEA’s 3 million members. We expect NEA management to show up to meaningfully bargain in good faith so that together we can create a contract that respects staff and the work we do, ensures staff can stay and grow within the organization, and adapts to the realities of the modern workplace—nothing less.

Pledge your solidarity

We believe that solidarity is a verb! We hope you do, too.

Tell us how you’re willing to support our efforts to secure a fair contract that upholds our union values.

RESPECT THE PICKET LINE

If NEA management forces us to strike, we’ll ask that our supporters, managers, and NEA members honor our picket lines and not cross them.

This includes doing any work that would be done or led by a NEASO member. Crossing a picket line undermines our union’s collective efforts and prolongs the duration of any strike.

Should we strike, all supporters will be invited to join us on the picket line, outside of NEA headquarters, or at one of the various picket sites we’ll hold.

Voting to authorize a strike signals our readiness to take collective action if necessary, but it does not automatically mean we are going on strike.

Strike authorization strengthens our bargaining position and demonstrates unity and resolve to achieve a fair contract.

The power to authorize a strike can only be granted by NEASO HQ membership.

NEASO’s bargaining team determined that it was necessary to seek strike authorization and requested the NEASO Board of Directors (BoD) to conduct a vote among the membership.

After a General Membership Meeting (GMM) to inform members, NEASO BoD conducted a vote of its membership to decide whether or not to give the bargaining team the authority to call a strike.

NEASO members resoundingly authorized a strike, demonstrating faith in our bargaining team and the collective power and resolve necessary to win the contract we deserve.

If management forces us to go on strike, NEASO will communicate directly with members through all member-only channels.

NEASO will also share a public announcement to make sure our union siblings and NEASO allies are informed and ready to help us hold the line.

Show Your Solidarity

We’ve put together sample messages, Zoom/Teams backgrounds, posters, videos, and graphics to help both NEASO members and allies to fight for a fair contract that respects our pay, our say, and our day.
